Playscapes

The gift of play and its value to our lives is often forgotten. Play, however, forms the foundation of who we are and continues to influence our creativity, health, and relationships. Playscapes explore new ways of creating spaces to challenge adults to communicate in both familiar and foreign ways. By encouraging them to let their social guards down, these projects free adults to be more open with strangers while re-discovering play.

Using a full-scale model to explore play, adults are encouraged to participate in a suspended world made between the trees with rope, nylon straps and a timber platforms. As multiple people join, the structure reacts unpredictably, increasing the playfulness of the experience.

Further explorations focus on how exterior spaces can maintain an interior quality conducive to playful social activities. A series of timber squares, connected with ropes at varying levels to climb and play with react to the movement of the users.
